- video: “Today we’re looking at this beautiful example of an 18-light, 19th Century Dutch brass chandelier. The form is pretty similar to the other ones you’ve probably seen; with several decorative arms and single ball at the bottom. What you probably don’t know, is, that each of these arms is numbered. Both on the arm itself and on the body of the chandelier. And the reason for it: At the end of a dinner, then you can reach up, and you could take out one arm and this would be your light back to your bedroom. In the bedroom, there would be a sconce like the one in the background that is similar in size and shape that you’d drop a pin into and have a light in your bedroom. And in the morning, the maid would come around and collect them and put them back into the chandelier––all them numbered. Both functional and beautiful!
