A large, free-standing English, Newton & Co.’s Astronomical & “Look-Out” telescope on tripod base of brass & mahogany, late 19th Century,
From the Catalogue: “Look-out Telescope, having a 3-in. Object-GIass, Body Tube of Brass, 3 feet long, fitted with Rack and Sliding Tubes for Adjustment, mounted Altazimuth with Metal Cradle and Bearings on Mahogany Stand, 5 feet high. The Terrestrial Eye-piece will show a church clock at 10 miles distance, and the Astronomical Eye-piece the Saturn Ring, and divide many of the Double Stars.”
