Regency Rosewood Specimen Box on Gilt Lion Paw Feet Circa 1810

A Regency rosewood specimen box of rectangular form with shallow canted lid and chamfered upper edges. The top centered by a tumbling-block parquetry panel in assorted specimen woods, framed by lightwood line inlay and fine geometric banding. The body inlaid to all sides with repeating Van Dyke (triangular/chevron) motifs in contrasting veneers against an ebonized ground, bordered by continuous stringing and geometric banding. Fitted with a working lock and key and raised on four gilt-metal lion paw feet with foliate scrollwork. The interior lined in teal textured paper retaining the original embossed paper borders to the inner lid. Working lock and key. Minor surface marks overall. English, Regency period, circa 1810.
