Tilt-Top Side Table, English circa 1870

List: $4,250

A circular tilt-top side table with a figured top raised on a ring-turned baluster pedestal and tripod base of three shaped downswept legs. The underside is fitted with two parallel battens and a central tilting block, with a circular brass catch securing the top in the horizontal position. The surface shows scattered light marks and wear consistent with age and use. English, circa 1870.

Tilt-top tables are defined by a top hinged to move into a vertical position; this construction allowed a table to be stored against a wall when not in use.
