Description
Gothic Revival yew tub chair with continuous curved top rail above a pierced foliate back splat carved with strapwork and foliate acanthus ornament, centering a lozenge-shaped void with an interlaced S-scroll motif and turned uprights. The rounded seat is upholstered in later cut‑velvet with a honeycomb pattern in ochre and red tones over a molded seat frame. The apron is carved with a repeating arcade of cusped lancet motifs, echoing Gothic tracery. Barley‑twist front and rear legs, linked by spool‑turned stretchers, draw on 17th‑century spiral turning traditions. Probably English, Late 19th century, Gothic Revival, circa 1880.
