Description
Carved walnut stool of curule form, the opposing X-frames centered to each end by fairly dignified and naturalistically carved bearded masks within shield-shaped cartouches and joined by a pair of pierced and shaped stretchers. The arched legs terminate in flattened feet. Padded rectangular drop-in seat with rounded corners, upholstered in cut velvet in a leaf-and-branch pattern, coral pile against a tan ground, close-nailed to the frame. French, circa 1830.
