Italian Neoclassical Walnut Writing Table, Circa 1800

Description

An Italian walnut writing table with a rectangular figured top and molded edge above a plain frieze fitted with a single central drawer. Small lozenge-shaped wooden keys are inset into the top, which retains visible joins, age splits and old repairs. The drawer has a molded rectangular front with a turned wooden pull and a floral paper-lined interior. Raised on four square tapering legs with vertical fluting, molded necks beneath the corner blocks and molded collars above small block feet. Wooden pegs are visible at the corner construction. The surface shows scattered marks, checking, rubbing and tonal variation consistent with age and use. Italian, circa 1800.
