A deeply carved solid ebony box from the Ceylon region of India made for the English market in the middle of the 19th Century. Intricate carvings on all sides, moulded top and base. The sharpness of the work, considering the hardness of the wood, is breathtaking. Remnants of original felt bottom. Interior with lidded side compartment.
