Description
A tall, narrow carved wood architectural element with scrolling acanthus foliage and volutes worked in high relief. The carved ornament retains gilt decoration against areas of blue-green and dark painted ground. Losses to the gilding and polychromy expose portions of the underlying wood. The panel was probably conceived as part of a larger architectural or ecclesiastical decorative scheme, possibly a retablo or carved interior surround. Spanish circa 1790.
