Description

A dome-topped bombé box veneered in burl walnut with coromandel crossbanding and double boxwood line inlay throughout. The domed lid is divided into geometric panels by the stringing, with a central diamond-shaped reserve of figured walnut at the crown. A shield-form escutcheon in bone or ivory is set into the front face. Brass ring handles on turned wooden bosses at each side. The interior is lined in cream silk. The box rests on four turned bun feet. Working lock and key. English, circa 1840.
