Description

William IV period, circa 1830–1837
A rosewood box with an accordion-profiled case resting on small turned bun feet. The lid is formed with a stepped and chamfered panel, displaying even rosewood grain and a dark polished surface. The front includes a round mother-of-pearl escutcheon and a working lock and key. The interior is lined in a deep red silk, and the underside of the lid is finished in solid rosewood. Brass hinges are present at the back. The proportions, stepped top, and shaped body relate to box forms current in the late William IV period.
