Description
A matched pair of novelty money boxes in the form of miniature doghouses, each constructed of stained wood with a pitched gable roof. The bodies are studded with brass roundel mounts at the corners and along the roofline. Each house has an arched opening at the front and a coin slot cut into the roof ridge. A pair of polychrome painted cast-iron Jack Russell Terriers stands on an extended base before each entrance, tethered to the structure by fine link chains. The dogs retain much of their original white, brown, and black painted surfaces with red-painted collars. English, circa 1900; Late Victorian / Edwardian Period. The two banks are of identical scale and construction, offered as a pair.
